Headed Down South, to the Land of the Pines

Phil and I stuck together for spring break this year (unlike the last two, when I went to Mexico and Seattle and poor Philip stayed here all alone).  We worked half the week, then drove down to Clemson, SC to visit Mimi, Dave, and Isaac.

Mimi showed us around the botanical gardens, where we took some time to stop and smell the flowers.

And the leaves.

We also fed some turtles.  They weren't too keen on the bread, but Isaac was keen on throwing it, and that's what really counts.

We spent plenty of time relaxing at home, making beautiful jewelry...

testing out the hammock (it works!)...

and fixin' stuff.

We toured a plantation home on the campus of Clemson University, where Dave works, and Dave showed us all around his lab.

We couldn't leave the South without enjoying some outrageously good barbecue.  The waitress told me the cole slaw was "as good as KFC's."  I went ahead anyway, and I would say it was even better, if you can believe that.

Thanks for an awesome trip, Ladners!

P.S.  Sorry we didn't get any pictures with you guys; Isaac will have to count for both of you.

  1. I'm thumbin' my way into North Caroline.... I agree the Ladners are excellent hosts. I'm still laughing about KFC and coleslaw.
